Area becoming major dumping ground
News
May 02, 2008
The Town is calling on local residents to help it nab the individuals who are using a vacant south-end property as a dumping ground.

The site -- at the southwest corner of Vickerman Way and Louis St. Laurent Boulevard -- was cleaned up last week by developer and property owner the Manaman Group, said Town Engineering Services Director Paul Cripps. But the dumping continued after the clean-up, meaning the property is once again covered in trash.

"A lot of it is landscaping materials," noted Cripps. "It really should all be going to the landfill site."

In addition to having Manaman clean the site up once again, Cripps said the Town is going to ask the developer to erect a fence to hopefully curtail the dumping.

Staff was scheduled to meet with Manaman on the issue yesterday.

But in the meantime, Cripps is urging any residents who see anyone dumping garbage on the property to get a licence plate number and report it to the Town's bylaw enforcement department at (905) 878-7252, ext. 2135.

He said he has also asked bylaw enforcement staff to monitor the area, but noted it's difficult because most dumping takes place after hours.
