Halton MPP Ted Chudleigh presented a petition to the Ontario Legislature this week that calls for better customer service from GO Transit.

The on-line petition, which was initiated last month by Oakville resident and GO rider Patricia Eales, has accumulated nearly 12,000 signatures and continues to grow. It requests a 50 per cent rebate on fares paid when GO is late by more than 20 minutes, more train cars to ease the overcrowding and better notification of transit cancellations, modifications and delays.

"As a GO rider myself, I was pleased to present this petition today (March 17) on behalf of Ms Eales and all Halton residents who are negatively affected by inconsistent trains and buses," said Chudleigh. "I hope that Dalton McGuinty and the Minister of Transportation take this very seriously."

Last week, Eales presented her petition to the GO board of directors. While the board didn't agree to reimburse riders for late trains, it did commit to improve customer service.

Eales said she's pleased with the support she has received from Chudeigh on the issue.

"I look forward to the government's response and encourage other riders to contact their MPPs and municipal leaders," she said.

Before giving the first petition pages to the clerk of the legislative assembly, Chudleigh and other Progressive Conservative MPPs affixed their own signatures.
